"BACON" BITS bonanza competition

WHAT’S IN YOUR vEEF?

We believe in using premium plant-based ingredients that taste great but more than that, we believe you should know what those ingredients are and what they are made of. We’re driven towards a sustainable future, and our chef-crafted products are carefully trialed, researched and developed by our team. We’ve profiled some of the key ingredients in our products below but if you’re dying to know more, get in touch and we’ll pass your question onto our food scientist.

What we're not putting in

What we’re leaving out is just as important as what we’re putting in. We only use natural colours and flavours, and we try to use as few ingredients as possible. It might go without saying but we also don’t use any animal products including meat, eggs, fish, dairy, honey or anything else that comes from (or comes out of) an animal!

FAQs

This tongue-twister isn’t nearly as alien as it sounds, it’s actually a plant-based fibre. Methylcellulose is made from cellulose, an important structure in plants. It’s non-fermentable which means you won’t get that nasty bloated feeling after eating it and it can be found in over-the-counter fibre supplements.

TVP is made by separating the protein from the fibre of soy beans or peas, and then the protein is put through an extruder to create the crumbly texture. This is the same process your bowl of cornflakes go through!

Also found in Vegemite, yeast extract is a flavouring made from the same kind of yeast you would use to make bread or beer except that it just consists of the cell content and not the cell wall of the yeast. It’s a great source of B vitamins which is good news for pregnant women and those with malabsorption conditions.
